JLI CLASS: July 2026 Sinai & Civics

  • OVERVIEW
On July 4, 2026, America will celebrate 250 years since the Declaration of Independence- a moment that invites us to reflect and ask:
What ideas shaped our country? What values guided the Founding Fathers of the United States? From its earliest days, America has stood for freedom, justice, and opportunity. Though still young compared to many nations, the United States’ commitment to human dignity and self-governance has inspired the world. Many of these core principles of freedom, moral responsibility, and the dignity of the individual–have deep roots in the Torah and Jewish tradition.
This summer, the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute presents Sinai and Civics, a captivating four-part series exploring the profound connections between American ideals and Jewish tradition.
    Together we’ll ask:
    • Can we trace the principles of American law and civic life back to values found in the Torah?
    • How do ancient Jewish ideas about freedom, justice, and responsibility continue to shape the American story today?  The United States has been one of the most welcoming and supportive homes for Jews in all of history. Jewish ethics and culture closely align with American values, allowing Jews to proudly and openly celebrate their heritage and practices. Join us on a four-week journey to uncover the shared roots of two remarkable traditions—and discover what they can teach us about building a strong, moral, and thriving society today
